[Shreveport, Louisiana – July 30, 2016] Close to 200 kids from our community participated in the 2016 YMCA Kids Triathlon. This annual event encourages children to discover the fun in fitness and to reach for their goals! At the YMCA of Northwest Louisiana, we believe all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of adults who care about them and believe in their potential.
Kids ages 4-14 swam, biked and ran to the finish line. There were three age divisions, each with different course lengths. Triathlons teach kids how to switch gears and make transitions with fellow participants, parents and volunteers to cheer them on. Crossing the finish line is a confidence boost for anyone, especially kids. Every finisher received an official race medal. We want kids to understand that it isn’t all about winning. It’s about the personal challenge, having fun and even giving back.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, all race registration fees supported the YMCA of Northwest Louisiana’s Annual Campaign, which provides support for membership and youth sports scholarships so that everyone can benefit from our YMCA.
